Pottstown – Manatawny Still Works will release its Third Anniversary Whiskey on Saturday, April 1st during its third anniversary party. The release will be MSW’s first straight whiskey, federally defined as being barrel-aged for a minimum of two years.
The whiskey release will be extremely limited, just a single barrel is being barreled the night before to adhere to the straight whiskey standard. The whiskey is being bottled at cask strength (62.5% alcohol by volume, 125 proof) and only two hundred bottles are expected to be on sale on Saturday at noon.
The whiskey is the sister of MSW’s original aged whiskey, Small BATCH01, which was aged just eight months when it was released in 2015. In the resulting time, the whiskey has matured, becoming more refined. Look for notes of malt, toffee, butter, vanilla, cinnamon and custard on the nose. The palate contains hints of caramel, wheat, cloves and butterscotch. The finish is rich and long, leaving lingering flavors of spice and malt.
Distiller Max Pfeffer says the third anniversary whiskey, "might be my best whiskey yet."
750ml bottles will go on sale promptly at noon for $79.99 each. But that’s far from the only excitement in store for visitors to the suburban Philadelphia distillery on its anniversary.
Recycled Tails will be on site throughout the day with puppies and dogs looking for permanent homes. The tasting room will be offering cocktail specials featuring its Three Bitches Vodka and adopters will receive a congratulatory pack that includes a bottle of Three Bitches Vodka. A portion of all sales of Three Bitches Vodka goes to local no-kill animal shelters.
Food will be provided throughout the day by a couple of Pottstown standbys, chef Michael Falcone will be on site with his HEART Food Truck and local Mediterranean restaurant, iCreate Café will be serving lunch and dinner from within the distillery.
Live music heats up the afternoon and evening hours. Supporting local artists has been a mission of the Pottstown tasting room since its opening and for the anniversary party, locally raised and nationally known Kendal Conrad and Brian McConnell will perform.
Manatawny Still Works began three years ago, with the goal to build a state-of-the-art distillery producing world-class spirits. The spirits are born out of a reverence for history and the marriage of careful craftsmanship, quality ingredients and high-tech, 21st century equipment. Chairman Craig Smith says “we invite everyone to come out and enjoy the progress we’ve made and try out our third anniversary whiskey. It’s the culmination of three years of hard work.”
