Catch the Buzz of Honey Whiskey

Manatawny Still Works collaborates with Chester County's Swarmbustin' Honey to create a delicious new spirit.

BATCH 14 is a collaborative take on honey whiskey.

Pottstown – The latest in Manatawny Still Works’ ( Small Batch Series will be released on Saturday, October 14th at the distillery’s Pottstown, PA (320 Circle of Progress Drive) and Philadelphia (1603 East Passyunk Avenue) locations. BATCH14 is a honey flavored whiskey, blending Chester County’s Swarmbustin' Honey's honey with intense whiskey to form a delicious handcrafted spirit.

Several vintages of Swarmbustin’ Buckwheat and Fall Wildflower Honey were blended to create this cloudy spirit that comes with the note, “shake well” before imbibing. The whiskey starts with a velvety sweet honey taste, balancing the tannins from the oak. The whiskey then shines through with a pleasant bite before fading into the intricacy of the honeys.

The Small Batch Whiskey Series is an opportunity for MSW head distiller Max Pfeffer to experiment. Each batch is a chance to try out different mash bills, vary the time aged or adjust the proof of the spirit. And in the case of BATCH14, it is a chance to blend the whiskey in with another local artisan product. Pfeffer has been a fan of Swarmbustin’ Honey since his parents moved next to a hive years ago. Long intrigued by the idea of a craft honey whiskey, Pfeffer set out to make this spirit. "This is not your usual honey whiskey, it’s not overly sweet. We purposely blended this batch of whiskey to have a bite so it wouldn’t get lost when we added the honey.” Like several of MSW’s small batch series, this one is a collaboration that gives customers an exciting product they haven’t tasted the likes of before. Pfeffer, who is also MSW’s Director of Operations adds, “the guys at Swarmbustin’ Honey make the best honey and we chose some of their richest varieties to lend a unique flavor to the whiskey. This isn’t just some bucked of chemicals like the big guys use.”

750 ml bottles of the BATCH14 Honey Whiskey will go on sale at both locations at noon on Saturday for $44.99 per bottle. At the distillery, Swarmbustin’ Honey will be set up to sample and sell their honeys. The bee team will also bring honey making equipment to educate consumers about the honey process.

BATCH14 Bottle Notes

NOSE: Honey, oak, wildflowers

PALLET: Sweet honey, caramel, vanilla, malt

COMMENTS: A collaborative spirit made with Swarmbustin’ Honey. The Chester County, PA apiary makes distinctive honeys with rich and complex flavors. Two honeys were blended with intense whiskey to provide sweet honey character without losing the bite of the whiskey. The spirit hits the tongue with velvety sweetness and rich honey character that challenges the tannins from the oak. The base whiskey shows through with a pleasant bite which fades to reveal the complexities of the honey.

BARREL: 53-gallon New American White Oak, #4 char.
